Lovely Day Films is a Melbourne based wedding video studio run by me, Suzie Haslam.
I absolutely love to film weddings. It’s such a privilege to be able to spend a couple’s wedding day with them and to capture it all and produce a piece of art from the day. I’ve met some truly amazing people doing so. People who are kind, beautiful, funny, generous and in love. My approach to filming a wedding is pretty relaxed, but also incredibly ninja like. I wont make you do awkward poses or anything contrived, instead I like to capture the day as it unfolds. I look around for all of the beautiful little details, I keep an eye out for precious moments, and capture these with my camera without getting in anyone’s way or interrupting the flow of events.
I’m super excited to film weddings and I want to meet you! If you’re interested please send me an email and firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll catch up for a drink.
I also love to take photos of adventures and put them on my personnel website www.suziehaslam.com.
Questions I’m often asked:
What exactly to do you?
I make non-traditional wedding films to capture your day as beautifully and candidly as I can. I don’t believe in directing you or contriving “moments”. I don’t need to, if I just let you guys be yourself all the wonderful bits and pieces will be there, I’ll keep my eyes open and capture them all.
Can I have the raw footage?
Well…no. Not really. Not because I’m mean, but because “raw footage” just doesn’t really exist given my filming style. I do not roll the camera continuously, instead I take many short snippets of video, every shot carefully considered. I observe people, I look around, and I get the shot then move onto the next one, instead of just having the camera rolling without thinking about it. That, and I honestly believe that a 2 hour long “raw edit” that you’ll never watch is much poorer value for money than a loving edited 15 minute film that you’ll watch again and again.
Is one videographer really enough?
You’re going to hear a lot of different opinions on this one! It really depends on the type of coverage that you’re after. All of my films have been made with only me, and if you like the way those films are put together then yes, one videographer is enough. If you are having multiple events happening simultaneously throughout your day, or you’d like full ceremony coverage, we may need a second shooter. We can work this out when we chat about your wedding 🙂
Do you put snippets of audio over the visuals? I love/hate this!
Generally my cinematic edits (the longer 15-18 minute films) will have some audio from the ceremony (vows) and occasionally the speeches edited into it. My shorts “highlight” films almost never do. Sometimes having the audio over the top works beautifully, sometimes it doesn’t. Some people love it, some hate it. Let’s chat beforehand and see what’s right for you.
Do we get to choose the music?
I’m licensed by APRA to use any music you like in your film so long as it’s for “domestic use” (ie, viewed privately) which is great for the cinematic (longer) edits. Unfortunately this license does not extend to online use. If you opt for the package with the “highlights” film, the price includes a licensed song for internet viewing. If you’d like your longer cinematic film to be available online there will be a small additional fee for the additional music licensing. Most couples leave the music selection up to me, but if you have particular songs you’d like used that’s fine, please send me the actual audio files rather than just the names to ensure that I use the correct version of the song.
Do you do custom packages?
